Did you know that one in four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime?
Somewhere between 600,000 and 6 million women are victims of domestic violence each year, and between 100,000 and 6 million men are also victims of domestic violence. Every day, there is an average of three women and one man killed by their intimate partners in our country.
The Women’s Studies Committee will be hosting guest speaker Becci Leonard on Nov. 29. Becci will speak in Charter Hall 217 at 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The topic of the event is “How to Identify and Respond to Domestic Abuse.”
Becci is part of WRAP (Women’s Rural Advocacy Program). Women’s Rural Advocacy Program in Marshall offers several services to the community. They provide a 24-hour crisis line, community education, confidential services, culturally-specific battered women’s services, and also referrals to lawyers, doctors, counselors, and financial assistance.
