Despite being down 0-3 at halftime, Head Coach Kasmarik-Mallet said she felt the team still held out hope of winning.

“We knew that we could play a lot better than we were,” Coach Kasmarik-Mallett said.

The women’s soccer team rallied hard in the second half to tie Wayne State. With two minutes left to the half, Emily Hofmann, a senior captain, passed to Allie Cook who then scored the winning goal, making the final score 4-3.

“We knew we could get back into the game and our players did and they deserve all the credit in the world for that,” Kasmarik-Mallett said.

SMSU’s women’s soccer team started their season with a win against Dakota Wesleyan on August 18. The team went on to play two home exhibition games.

SMSU will be home for Family Weekend. The team hopes to use the momentum from this Sunday’s win to outperform the competition in their upcoming match.

“For us it’s just continuing to build. Making sure we’re staying grounded going into the weekend’s game,” Coach Kasmarik-Mallett said.

They’re scheduled to play Northern State Friday, September 21 and MSU Moorhead that Sunday.
