Fans of J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” series will rejoice at this piece of news: Southwest Minnesota State University now has its very own Quidditch team.

Sophomore Desiree Bauer is the team’s captain.

“It was a process to get this team on campus, but I really felt like we needed this sport here. I know that there are a lot of Potterheads at SMSU, so I’m glad that we could get this sports team out here,” Bauer said.

The team name is not official yet, but sources say that it will be named after Frank the Thunderbird, who recently starred in “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” However, team names will be discussed at the first practice.

For the Muggles who are not familiar with the sport of Quidditch, the goal of the game is to get more points than the opposing team. Each end of the pitch—that’s like a football field for the Muggles out there—has three circular goal hoops of different heights. The hoops are just like a basketball hoop, only stood upright. There is a ball that can be thrown through the hoop to get points, and the first team to catch the Golden Snitch will earn their team 150 points; that doesn’t necessarily mean that the team with the Snitch will win the match; the most points wins.

More details will be provided at the team meeting on March 32 in the RA facility. Be sure to bring your broomsticks and creativity. Magic will not be permitted at the meeting or on the pitch.
