Football team beats Crookston

SMSU traveled to the University of Minnesota Crookston on Sept. 9. The team entered the game with a record of 2-1 and Crookston held a record of 0-3.

The elements definitely played a part in this game, as there was a strong wind throughout the game.

Crookston played the Mustangs tough through the first half and went into the locker room with a score of 21-7.

In the second half, the Mustangs’ offense found their stride and put up points on nearly every drive.

SMSU was able to put in the younger players in the fourth quarter with the game in hand and won 47-13.

Max Simmons tied a school record with 4 rushing touchdowns in the game.

“Scoring 4 touchdowns feels great but I have to give a shout out to the herd.The o-line.” Simmons said, “They did their job, they created the holes and I just ran through them.”

Tyler Flud, who intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown, said,

“We were playing ourselves this week. We knew we were the better team on paper. That’s one thing we took for granted last week,” Flud said,  “It’s tough but the coaches kept drilling in our heads that we were playing ourselves this week.”
