On Saturday, April 12, the Southwest Minnesota State University Mustang men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in their first outdoor meet of the season at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn.
Rylee Armstrong and Samantha McNeel paced the Mustang women, both earning first place finishes. Armstrong took first place in the high jump with a mark of 1.60 meters, which McNeel earned first place in the long jump with a mark of 5.08 meters.
Dallin Finley and Alejandro Sanchez, who both claimed first place in their respective events, paced the Mustang men. Finley earned first place in the 200-meter run with a time of 22.48, while Sanchez earned first place in the 400-meter run with a time of 50.12.
OJ Ojullu and Chris Kveseth, both competing for the Mustang men, earned second and third place, respectively, in the 800-meter run. Ojullu finished with a time of 1:59.15, while Kveseth finished with a time of 1:59.84.
Also competing for the Mustang men were Ben Tonsager and Anthony Dean. Competing in his first track meet as a Mustang, Tonsager claimed first place in the shot with a throw of 14.41 meters. Dean earned a second place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 12.92 meters.
