A game-high 21 points from Alison Nagel was not enough to lift the Mustangs over Wayne State College Friday, January 24 as they fell 67-58 to the Wildcats. This marks the Wildcats’ 10th consecutive win over the Mustangs since February of 2009.
The Wildcats started the first half with a layup and never looked back; in fact, the Wildcats never let the Mustangs have the lead throughout the entire game. While the Wildcats held a lead throughout the entire first half, the Mustangs were never out of reach, with the largest deficit of the first half being 22-30 going into the half.
A 10-2 scoring run by the Wildcats helped them gain momentum early in the second half. Although the Mustangs attempted several comebacks, they simply fell short. The Wildcats did not allow the Mustangs to come within less than nine points throughout the majority of the half, ending the game with a 67-58 win.
Nagel paced the Mustangs with 21 points, followed by Rebekah Rolling with 10. Ellen Degler, who currently leads the Mustangs in field goal percentage, recorded with six points. Degler also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Jessie Watts added seven points.
With the loss, the Mustangs fall to an overall record of 3-14 and 1-12 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
