The Mustang women’s soccer team this year had an amazing season, with it being the second-best winning season in Southwest Minnesota State University history.
They unhorsed Mankato of one of the longest home game winning streaks in NCAA history. They had an 11-game winning streak themselves, five of those being back-to-back shut-outs. Going into their game against Duluth for the region championship, the Mustangs were already winners.
In their 2-0 loss against Duluth, both defenses were in overdrive with both teams collectively getting less than ten shots on goal. Maureen Stormont had the two game-winning goals against the Mustangs, both coming early in the second half.
While they ultimately lost, SMSU can be proud of our team and our players. They had an amazing season where five players have been named to the 2013 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Continental Tire All-Central Region team: Brienna Dehkes, Miranda Cadena, Autumn Hayes, Megan Kilroy, and Kendahl Fisher. Cadena was also named All-American.
Adding this to the high number of wins from the soccer Mustangs, it can be said that this was a season for winners.
