Minnesota State University men’s basketball team fell 75-60 to Winona State University on Jan. 26. This win marks the 18th consecutive regular season game in which WSU has defeated the Mustangs.
WSU scored the first six points of the game and never looked back, leading throughout the entire game. With just under 13 minutes left in the first half the Mustangs tied the score at 12-12 after a layup by Nick Smith. However, WSU responded by building up a three-point lead.
With nine minutes left in the first half, the Mustangs tied the score at 17-17. Once again, WSU was able to bounce back, building up a nine-point run.
The Mustangs came within two with just minutes remaining in the first half. However, the Warriors closed out the half 9-4, taking a 34-30 lead at the half.
WSU held the lead throughout the entire second half. They extended their lead to 52-41with 13:40 remaining. A 9-0 run by the Mustangs cut that deficit to 52-50. The Warriors refused to let the Mustangs regain the lead. They didn’t allow the Mustangs to score in the following four minutes and built up a 60-50 lead. The Warriors would go on to win 75-60.
The Mustangs were led by Jordan Miller, whom scored 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Miller was followed by Vinard Birch and Lavione West, who scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.
With the loss, the Mustangs fall to a record of 11-10 overall and 8-6 in the NSIC. The Warriors improve to 18-3 overall and 12-2 in the NSIC.
