The Southwest Minnesota State University men’s and women’s cross country teams were back in action at the Gale Woods Invitational, which was hosted by Crown College.
The Mustang women came away from the meet with a fifth place finish, while injuries prevented the men from fielding a full team, therefore keeping them from placing in the men’s overall results.
AnnMarie Dykstra, who finished 38th overall with a time of 28:15, paced the Mustang women. Following Dykstra was Diana Moe who finished in 53rd place with a time of 29:34. Also pitching in for the Mustangs were Karli Tholen (30:40), Amanda Estes (31:54), Kaelyn Turner (32:39), and Lisa Schroeder (36:38).
The Gustavus Adolphus Gusties swept the women’s team and individual titles. All five Gustavus runners finished in the top 10, helping the Gusties to 17 team points. The Mustangs finished in fifth place with 168 points.
Leading the Mustang men was Demond Carter, who finished 80th overall with a time of 31:55. Finishing in 92nd place was Andrew Feucht with a time of 34:25. Also competing for the Mustangs were Jason Bentley (34:33) and Ryan Punke (37:35).
The St. John’s Johnnies swept the men’s team and individual titles, finishing with a total of 15 points.
The Mustang cross country teams will be competing again on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Caty’s Run, hosted by Minnesota State- Mankato.
