Jesus creating natural disasters?

Just a few weeks ago, people were travelling across America to watch the solar eclipse.

Then, desolation set in as Hurricane Harvey hit Texas, followed by uncontrolled fires burning up the western side of the United States.

All of this is currently being followed by Hurricane Irma, Jose and Katia.

This has also brought about an interesting speculation; is it the second coming of Jesus Christ?

What has largely been the cause of this idea is the Bible verse Luke 21:25-26.

It reads: “There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among the nations, bewildered by the roaring of the sea and the surging of the waves. Men will faint from fear and anxiety over what is coming upon the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.”

The solar eclipse occurred on August 21st, Hurricane Harvey was spotted/started on the 25th and the flooding hit on the 26th.

To add onto that, Mexico also had an 8.1 magnitude Earthquake on September 8th.

Depending on the version of the Bible, this fits in with Luke 21:25-26 as well.

There are many verses that also incorporate fires with Jesus’ coming.

Such as 2 Thessalonians 1:8, he will appear “with a flaming fire,” and 2 Peter 3:10, “the elements will be destroyed by fire.”

It is also stated in the Bible that Jesus will come in the midst of a seven-year span, and the next solar eclipse is supposed to happen in 2024—seven years from now.

This solar eclipse also lines up on a fault line, which we know causes earthquakes.

So, these Bible verses even line up for future events.

The argument against these statements is that it has been scientifically proven that the way we treat the Earth would lead to a mass of natural disasters like these.

Others have also pointed out the verse of Mark 13:32, “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”

Whether these are signs telling us that Jesus is coming and we just won’t ever know the exact date, or if they are simply a matter of science (or both), I find the coincidences to be too big for comfort.

Either way, I have hope that our world will recover and be all the stronger because of all of these disasters.
