With budget cuts looming, many students have felt out of the loop in regards to how this issue is being handled. Besides what seems to be a blindness caused by the previous administration, there has been some confusion in the current administration on what it’s going to do about the problem. The scheduled times for students to voice their opinions and ideas have been, at times, scheduled during class periods, which is inconvenient for many students who would have wished to attend.
Jordan Schuft, a Financial and Accounting double major, said, “It is stupid, because they should have known there were going to be budget problems and they should have already had solutions in place to fix it, it’s called hoping for the best and planning for the worst. And as far the students know we still don’t have a solution.”
Will this confusion and uncertainty surrounding the future of the school have a negative impact on the perception of this school by current and potential students? “Yes, because it looks like they don’t know what they are doing, they should have plans in place and it appears that they don’t, their proposed solution is to cut programs (chemistry, geology, French, and Spanish) and that looks bad, because students will feel that the administration doesn’t care about the students,” Schuft said.
No matter what happens with the future of the school financially, one thing is certain: this budget problem is, and will continue to be seen, negatively, where potential students may look at the university and decide not to even apply.
