It goes without fail, every student at one-point thinks their dorm complex is inferior in some way. And most dormitories do fall short.
But how would you feel if I told you the dorms at our Southwest Minnesota State University are actually pretty decent?
I’ve lived on-campus for almost three years now and heard my share of whining. The hallways, the bathrooms, the lights, the heaters, the rooms and everything else that could possibly be complained about, I’ve heard it all. Most of it I agreed on.
Until I visited my best guy-friend at the University of Minnesota: Mankato.
Nothing puts value on what you have like seeing someone else’s living arrangements.
Upon first entering my friend’s hallway, my nose was assaulted by the familiar stench of vomit and vodka. Apparently, it had smelled that way for a while even though it was technically “cleaned up.” I’ve smelled some rancid odors at SMSU, but nothing compared to that experience.
You think our double rooms are small? Mankato’s double rooms are smaller, without carpeting, and have this weird little wall by a randomly placed sink. The sink, while awesome, made the room feel smaller.
Next time you feel the need to complain about your living arrangements take a sniff of your hallway before taking your shoes off on your carpeted floor. Things could be worse.
