SMSU adds Brufat, Tamm and Stevens as admission counselors

SMSU has welcomed three new admission counselors: Emily Brufat, Kate Tamm, and Davontay Stevens.

Brufat graduated from SMSU in 2013 with a degree in marketing. Her marketing degree led her to counseling because she enjoys talking with and helping students every day.

SMSU was appealing to her because campus is close to her home in Clarkfield, Minn. She also enjoys the small-town atmosphere.

“You walk through campus and everyone says hi to you. There’s that welcoming feeling,” Brufat said.

In her free time, Brufat enjoys outdoor activities, cooking, and going on motorcycle trips with her husband.

Tamm also graduated from SMSU in 2013, with a degree in political science. She then went on to do her graduate work at MSU Moorhead and graduated with a degree in educational leadership in 2015.

She finds it admirable how personable SMSU faculty is. Attending campus events and generally enjoying the close-knit community are Tamm’s favorite things to do in Marshall.

“I enjoy being able to go to Hy-Vee or Bagels and Brew and always knowing someone within the community,” Tamm said.

Stevens majored in recreational sports management at SMSU. In 2016, he started work both as a graduate assistant for SMSU football and an admission counselor.

He thinks very highly of SMSU, especially the faculty’s ability to help students find opportunities.

“SMSU helped me grow as a person since I first stepped on campus,” Stevens said.

In his free time, Stevens enjoys gaming, reading and outdoor activities. He also takes every opportunity to work with young people and point them in the right direction to fulfill their dreams.
