Four under investigation for Sweetland vandalism

On Monday, Oct. 17, Reseidence Life sent out an e-mail to SMSU students saying that over the weekend of Homecoming someone vandalized items in Sweetland Hall and they were trying to find those responsible.

Sunday morning, the day after the Homecoming football game, is when the damage was found. Just about every year, something is vandalized in Sweetland. As it is with every dorm, each current resident is charged if the person responsible is not found. Up until this point, there had been no damages this year.

“It was two vending machines that were completely destroyed that were in the RA parking lot,” Director of Public Safety Mike Munford said. “There was also some graffiti.”

The graffiti was partially drawn and partially carved into the walls on the floors of Sweetland. There was also a car vandalized that morning.

Munford and the rest of the Public Safety members are still making developments on this case. Four people are currently under investigation by the Marshall Police Department.

Since it is known who did these damages, it is assumed that the residents of Sweetland will not have to pay a fee.

Aside from this, there was no other information that Munford could provide. The details on who the suspects are and what the possible punishment will be is not public yet. Munford did say that the report should be released to the public within a week.

Those who have more information are encouraged to contact Public Safety. A Silent Witness form is available for those who wish to stay anonymous.
