TRC moves to help students

In July, the Technology Resource Center (TRC) moved its location to the main floor of the McFarland Library from its previous location across from the Career Services office.

The TRC’s move resulted from discussions between the Information Technology Service (ITS) and library staff about improving technology services for students. In previous years, students visiting the library often had questions involving technology. Students with technology questions were redirected to the TRC.

Now, students can have their questions answered in the library by ITS staff.

“Now there is a ‘one stop shop’ for technology and library services support,” Information Technology Specialist Ben Nwachukwu said.

In addition to increased convenience for students, the move to the library has allowed the TRC to expand its hours. Students are now able to visit the TRC Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday nights 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The library has seen increased traffic as a result of the TRC’s presence. Librarian Pam Gladis hopes to see some of these students return to the library.

“Hopefully students see the library as a good place to hang out and study,” Gladis said. “We hope they’ll return for research help and will generally recognize the library as a place to get assistance.”

SMSU students can also receive technology support at smsu.edu/informationtechnologyservices or by calling the ITS Helpdesk at (507) 537-6111.
