Black and White Affair a Success
On Friday, March 25, more than 50 SMSU students gathered in the Upper Conference Center to dance, eat, and be with friends. Students of all kinds dressed up to go to this semi-formal event called The Black and White Affair.
Hors d’oeuvres, punch, and ice water were served to the students as they danced the night away.
Cassie Williams of the Advancement, Opportunity, & Success office coordinated with Club Latino, U.G.L.Y.S, and the Black Student Union to bring the evening together.
“I think it was a success,” Williams said. “It looked like everyone was having fun.”
The Black and White Affair was met with some turbulence when it was originally scheduled in February. Due to lack of participation with the planning of the event, it was postponed until March when it could be better planned.
“I think we would have more people come the week we rescheduled, but I’m really happy with the amount of people that attended today,” Williams said.
Attendees partied with each other to the sounds of Vance “DJ Advance” McCain from the Twin Cities area. He played songs of many different varieties including “Sorry” by Justin Bieber, “Cha Cha Slide” by DJ Casper, “Milly Rock” by 2milly, “Hey Ya!” by OutKast, and “Hotline Bling” by Drake.
Freshman Alisha Parker attended the dance and helped with the publicity.
“[The music] was like a buffet; full of flavor and many things to choose from,” Parker said. “I learned many dances as well as taught a few.”
Overall, the Black and White Affair was a fun night for everyone who was in attendance. Parker said, “It was definitely a night to remember.”
Williams guarantees that next year’s dance will be even more fun and encourages everyone to come.
