One of Marshall’s most well-known coffee and sandwich shops, the Daily Grind, reopened its doors on Nov. 3.
The shop had been closed due to smoke damage from a fire in the building next door last August.
The reopening is an event much of the Marshall community has been looking forward to. After being closed for almost two and a half months, the Daily Grind’s return to servicing the town has been much anticipated.
A local resident, Jacki Knigge, expressed her excitement over Facebook, commenting the following:
“So happy you are open again. Can’t have a downtown without a coffee shop.”
Southwest Minnesota State University professor, Richard Herder, also commented his pleasure online.
“We had coffee/tea there this morning,” Herder said. “The place looks great and the conversations were great as well.”
The employees of the Daily Grind are also happy to see the cafe reopen its doors.
An employee, Carly Schneider, commented that since the shop opened its doors again, it has been really busy.
Manager, Erika Allen, agreed, saying the community has been very supportive during the Daily Grind’s first week since the fire. The hours have been extended to 6:30a.m. to 5p.m. Mon. through Sat., and is open late until 9p.m. on Thurs.
The store did not just do restoration after the fire—it underwent remodeling. Allen listed off several improvements to the store, including “improvements to the kitchen, new floors, new paint, and new ventilation.”
Customers were satisfied with the new additions to the store as well.
“[I like] how they updated the store. It gives a nice, quiet atmosphere that makes it easy to enjoy a good book,” said SMSU professional writings and communications (PWC) sophomore and avid coffee drinker, Jill Hoppe.
The Daily Grind is located at 316 West Main Street.
