The Winter Festival is back, Mustangs!! In a week filled with getting lei’d, spa days, nearly-naked running and very spirited students on the ever-popular Hawaiian Night, it’s no wonder that Southwest Minnesota students look forward to the Winter Festival.
“There’s Snow Place Like SMSU” is the theme for this year’s Winter Festival, held the week of Jan. 27-Feb. 1.
Annual events will include a chance for Mustangs to make their own leis, a spa day held by Minnesota West salon and massage students, the Nearly-Naked Mile Run, Live at the Landing performances, movie showings, basketball games and more.
New activities for this year include personalized snow globes and a performance by “The Sing Off” winners Home Free.
Ending the week’s festivities is Hawaiian Night, where both the men’s and women’s basketball teams will compete against University of Minnesota-Crookston.
Seemingly the only time where wearing bathing suits, coconut bras, leis and hula skirts in the freezing cold months of winter in Minnesota is acceptable, Hawaiian Night is a getaway for most SMSU students who are looking to party hard and relax after a “stressful” first couple of weeks back at school and forget about the cold and snow.
With Hawaiian Night right around the corner, dig out those packed away bathing suits, remember your ‘snow’screen and cheer on your fellow Mustangs!!
