Though the history books are riddled with the horrors of slavery, there are still many people who become victims of these horrors due to modern-day slavery.
Southwest Minnesota State University students in Richard Herder’s FYS: Modern-Day Slavery course were given the opportunity to understand more about this issue and the CNN Freedom Project with a presentation from Leif Coorlim, executive editor and founder of the project.
According to CNN, the Freedom Project fights against this issue by “shining a spotlight on the horrors of modern-day slavery, amplifying the voices of the victims, highlighting success stories” and more.
“The speaker’s main focus was telling us the process of how individuals were saved and informing us of how common slavery is worldwide,” Margaret Roy, freshman, said.
Coorlim is “passionate about what he does” and used that to express what the Freedom Project does for victims of this issue.
“From listening to Coorlim speak, I have learned that isn’t a problem that will just disappear if it is ignored, this is a problem that needs numbers on its side to over come and fight those behind the problem of modern day slavery,” Stephanie Asfeld, freshman, said.
Coorlim and many others work hard to get the word out about modern-day slavery so that they are able to help the many victims that face this worldwide issue.
