This quote is empowering to those in the LGBTQIA+ community, especially in a world where acceptance is not always guaranteed, this event stood as a beacon of acceptance and solidarity. Despite facing adversity, including the removal of posters promoting the event, the organizers remained resolute in their commitment to fostering a supportive community. The challenges only served to strengthen their resolve, empowering them to reclaim their space and celebrate their pride unabashedly. 

Behind the scenes, the planning process was a mix of exhilaration and stress, with decorations being finalized right up to the last minute. Yet, amidst the chaos, there was an undeniable sense of camaraderie among club members, fueled by their shared passion for creating a memorable experience for all and for those a part of the LGBTQIA community. 

As the night unfolded, the music and dancing served as a soundtrack to liberation, uniting individuals from diverse backgrounds under a common banner of acceptance. For those in attendance, Queer Prom was more than just an event—it was a declaration of identity and a testament to the unwavering strength of the LGBTQIA+ community. In the face of adversity, Southwest Minnesota State University’s Queer Prom shone brightly as a testament to the resilience and unity of the LGBTQIA+ community. Alex and many of the members felt that “We are here, and we are queer! We are not going anywhere.” 

In looking ahead, the success of this year’s Queer Prom has sparked anticipation for future events. Discussions have already begun regarding the theme for next year, promising even more excitement and creativity. While plans for the fall 2024 semester remain uncertain, one thing is clear: the spirit of inclusivity and resilience will continue to thrive at SMSU.
