The Student Hospitality Opportunities Club (SHO Club) is where anyone can experience real, hands-on hospitality events and catering campus.
“[SHO Cub] ha[s] weekly meetings, participates in fundraisers, caters for the dinner theaters and luncheons on campus and caters for the interactive dinner,” said SHO Club President Skylar Kontio.
They go to the National Restaurant Association (NRA) show every May in Chicago, Ill. for a week. They have their own booth to represent SMSU and the club. While in Chicago, you eat at high-end restaurants, see the city, work the SMSU booth, meet professional and famous chefs from around the world, and walk around the show to learn about different companies and restaurants and what they’re promoting.
The fundraisers that the SHO Club participates in are the Truffle Sales every Feb. and various bake sales around Marshall. For the few dinner theaters that go on throughout the year, they create, and make, a different menu for each play, set up the dining room, and then serve the people who preorder their spot.
SHO Club also is involved in the interactive dinner every December where a special culinary guest comes to show the participants what they’re making and how to make it. This last year Chef Franco Lania helped the guests make their own ravioli.
If you want to become part of SHO Club, or have questions, show up to IL 116 Tuesdays at 2:45 P.M. or email SHO Club President Kontio, at [email protected].
