The 62^nd Annual Grammy Awards took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on Sunday, January 26. What a night it was! There were lots of great performances, and many surprising winners throughout the night.

The big winner of the night was Billie Eilish. Eilish won 5 out of her 6 nominations for the night, including all of the big 4 categories (Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist). Her producing partner and brother, Finneas, also won his nomination for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical.

Many of the artists throughout the night in some way paid tribute to Kobe Bryant, as well as showing his jersey as well as one for his daughter Gianna, hanging from the rafters at the Staples Center during the opening monologue given by host Alicia Keys.

The various performances were very interesting this year. Tyler the Creator put on a very visually surprising act when performing “EARFQUAKE/NEW MAGIC WAND” with Charlie Wilson and Boyz II Men. Throughout his performance, Tyler had many extras dressed like him doing very strange dance moves. He finished the performance by falling backward into a pit surrounded by flames.

Demi Lovato and Camila Cabello both had very emotional and moving performances and brought the audience to tears. Camila sang her song “First Man” while showing videos and photos on the screen behind her, paying tribute to her father and later walking up to him and finishing the song holding his hand. Demi, back on stage after her recent life-threatening overdose, performed her song “Anyone”, which references the hard time in her life she was going through after her latest rehab stint.

Other notable performances of the night included Ariana Grande, The Jonas Brothers,

Billie Eilish, Usher, and Aerosmith featuring Run – D.M.C. To conclude the evening, the final performance of the night was a tribute to Ken Ehrlich and music education in schools with a performance of “I Sing the Body Electric” from the musical Fame.
