Maryland rapper Logic has come through with another album hardly two months after his last release of Supermarket. Logic is an artist I haven’t given much thought to, despite enjoying his Bobby Tarantino tapes and his project, Young Sinatra IV. However, I was curious about this album after listening to two of its teaser tracks, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and Homicide.

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind is fantastic– the relatable content throughout contained smooth flows and a relaxing beat. This track delves into Logic’s own insecurities, which are worsened by social media. Homicide is a track that is impressive for speedy flows, clever wordplay, and effective rhyming schemes. Eminem’s appearance on this song increases the album’s appeal. Because of these two great singles, I was interested to see what the rest of the album would have to offer.

All I have to ask is. . . what the heck happened?

By releasing Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Logic set this album up to have a theme involving the impact of social media on the individual. Admittedly, the beginning of the album played into the social media theme through songs such as Clickbait and Mama/Show Love with YBN Corde, but the rest of his songs did not follow through with this vision. This left the album feeling inconsistent.

Wannabe isn’t horrible, but its short length prevented it from effectively building on the idea of someone being obsessed with fame. To me, Clickbait wasn’t good. There was a combination of bad singing, bars that didn’t align with Logic’s concept, and– unlike Wannabe– it went on way longer than what it should have. After these two albums, however, the album lost focus from what Logic seemed to have intended it to be.

The album is lyrically bland; if Logic is supposed to be in the camp of lyrical rap, I’m going to expect some decent bars. This isn’t someone like Travis Scott where the vibe and feel of the song is the primary part of the listening experience. It seems to me that on this album, Logic is being goofy on the mic in a cringy way.

I’d hate to see bow this album came off to a Logic fan because to me, this is disappointing. I see why one of the tracks is called Clickbait because that’s what this album experience was for me.
