Since the first Burnout game dropped in 2001 on PlayStation, Xbox, Gamecube, and even the Dreamcast, the series has maintained a steady pace for themselves in the video game industry. However, more recently they have decided to remaster one of my all-time favorite Burnout games onto the new gen systems. That’s right, Burnout: Paradise City returns to consoles and I am excited to race again!

First released in 2008 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Burnout: Paradise City pushed the console’s graphics to the limit with its open world racing style of gameplay. The game was developed by Criterion Games, who had also helped develop such games as Need For Speed and Star Wars Battlefront II, and published by Electronic Arts, which is famous for Star Wars BattleFront II and the recently released co-op game A Way Out.

Burnout: Paradise City was a game that changed the idea of racing games. There was no set track or closed course, and you were left driving on streets in which you had to memorize each lane and detour. While driving on these main roads, you will have to keep your eyes wide open for oncoming traffic, splits in the road, and high flying jumps.

When Burnout: Paradise City first dropped on the PS3 and Xbox 360 the consoles were pushed to their limits. For the remastered version of the game on PS4 and Xbox One, it’s no different. The graphics are clean and sleek, and make the cars look even better while going a 100 miles per hour down the road. There are countless activities and races to be completed. There are normal races, time trials, hit list and road rage. However, in classic Burnout fashion, the best part of the game is when you crash. You can be cruising down the road at more than seventy-five miles per hour when suddenly you are t-boned by a huge semi! It’s terrifying but fun to watch unfold.

Overall, I had few complaints about Burnout: Paradise City’s remastered edition. I still get the same thrills out of it as if I was playing it for the first time.
