Homecoming 2016: Mustangs Unleashed

Desiree Bauer, Staff Writer

SMSU Homecoming events start Monday, Sept. 26. Chartwells will kick us into Homecoming with a meal in the Alumni Plaza from 5 to 7 p.m.

Tuesday night is candidate’s night, where a hypnotist will hypnotize them in the PE Gym.

The well-known Mustang Idol is Wednesday, with tryouts starting at 11 a.m. and finals being at 7 p.m.

If you decorated your residence hall a few weeks prior, Thursday is the day you have been waiting for. The judges will be coming around to decide which hall they feel has the most spirit.

Later in the evening, we will meet the Homecoming King and Queen of 2016. Coronation is at 7 p.m. in the Lower Ballroom of the Conference Center.

Hopefully you’ve been stocking up on your brown and gold, because Friday is the day where you can wear it and be praised for it, especially at the 7 p.m. volleyball game against Northern State. With 5 other events going on that day, there’s no reason for you to be Netflixing in your room.

Saturday is the day we’ve all been waiting for: Homecoming Day! If you like pancakes, the Lions Club is hosting their 30th annual pancake feed in the Fire Hall until 10:30 a.m. You could even drop by after you get done running/walking the 5 or 10K that morning.

Or, if you don’t like pancakes (and want to sleep in), there is an alumni parade hospitality tent that has breakfast paninos. Exact locations will be listed on the SMSU website.

The royalty will be on floats during the parade, starting at 11 a.m. Once the parade is completed, there are quite a few different things to do before the football game.

Voting for royalty candidates has been open since the 12th, but you can still take place in the voting.

The soccer team is playing at noon, there’s a planetarium show, and the volleyball team will be taking on MSU Moorhead at 3 p.m. Tailgating starts at 4 p.m., leaving more than enough time to relax before kickoff at 6. The Mustangs will be going against Upper Iowa.

Afterwards, you could head to the performance by 176 Key Dueling Pianos, or just look forward to Sunday’s Soccer game at 1 p.m. A full, detailed list of every event for Homecoming 2016 can be found at the SMSU website.

Voting for candidates has been open since the 12th, but you can still take place in the voting, as there are three days open for the choosing of everyone’s favorite King and Queen Candidate.

Whether you vote on the 26th, 27th, or 28th, there are events every day afterwards that you can participate in.
