Coldplay Album Review: The Album Didn’t Live Up
Coldplay is a prolific British band known for songs like “Yellow,” “Viva La Vida,” and “Paradise.” They released a new album last Dec. titled A Head Full of Dreams.
Rumored as their last album together, this had a lot to prove. Did it meet its mark? In my opinion, no. The one song that got itself on America’s Top 40 was “Adventure of a Lifetime.” This song is a fun song, but it’s hard to listen to when it first starts. The rest of the album is slow and boring.
Like a lot of their albums, there is one instrumental piece at the end of the set. This is a precursor to their 6 min. 45 sec. last song that seems to drag on as a sort of last, prolonged hurrah. It is reminiscent of a party that ended at midnight, but the last person doesn’t leave until 6 A.M. the next day. The rest of Coldplay’s normally long songs keep people listening the entire time, something that this song does not.
The album is not all bad, however. I feel that it would honestly be the perfect background song for a quiet house gathering or a romantic scene in a movie. It is definitely an album that people do not have to actively listen to. It is more a passive album, which can be a good and bad thing.
Overall, this album is a mix of negative and positive. It is boring, but in the right situation can create the right ambiance. I give it 2 and a half Spurs. 2.5/5
