Chris Jones, hypnotist and comedian, was present on campus last Tuesday, Oct. 7. His funny and engaging show kicked off the homecoming week festivities. He performed in the PE gym on campus.
Chris’ show seemed to be the busiest event throughout the week. There was a winding line from the closed PE doors, all the way out to the fitness rooms. The audience was sitting everywhere from the floor to in front of the filled bleachers and all the way up to the second level where people were standing to find a good angle. His fun-filled act was two hours of singing, dancing, crude humor, amusement, and, of course, belly-aching laughter.
After the introduction of the homecoming court, Chris was introduced and wasted no time to start the show. He had eighteen chairs set up on the gym floor awaiting eager volunteers. He explained the effects and actions of hypnosis and said that you would act as though you were drunk, (only people who were 21 and over would know the effects of that, of course); and you would awake as if you had gotten three to four hours of sleep.
After the chairs were filled, he started the hypnosis. He performed many tricks, but some of the funniest ones were the superhero names and actions, and the game show act. During the superhero act, each individual had to come up with their own superhero name and super power. For the game show act, they acted as though they were playing Family Feud and took innocent-meaning questions and turned the answers into hilarious, crude humor.
Chris did a spectacular job of hypnotizing everyone and making each and every audience member laugh until they cried and their bellies ached. The Student Activity Club made a smart call in hiring him to come and perform here. We all hope to see him again in the future and can barely wait for next year’s homecoming.
