Elizabeth Blair is an English professor for SMSU who mostly teaches online classes, like Non-Fiction Workshop. On April 23, 2014, Blair gave a reading of her non-fiction essay, eight years in the making. It began as an essay on wild orchids, but after the sixth year it became more like a memoir, a memoir that focuses on parents, photography, beauty, and of course orchids. Blair’s essay spoke of her parents and their similar yet different interests, the dreaded “B” word of photography (FYI Beauty), and how all of these things affect her life today as a teacher and avid photographer. The essay was a joy to listen to and had me learning new things as it went on, plus Blair’s reading voice was pleasant to listen to. Blair wasn’t able to read all of her essay, but what we did get to listen to showed the eight years of work that was put into it.
