So a new band that seems to be tearing it up down south right now: The Tontons hailing from Houston, Texas. The band is fronted by Asli Omar (main singer) and Justin and Adam Martinez are the drummer and guitarist respectfully and the bassist is Tom Nguyen.
The Tontons just released a new album titled, “Make Out King and Other Stories…” which I have to say is one of the best albums I have heard in a long time. And as a professional slacker and music junkie I listen to a lot of music. Their style is so unique it is really hard to describe, but if I had to label it I would go with: indie meets modern beach meets classic rock. And with Asli Omars amazing voice she really makes it work. Adam really does take you back to the 60’s/70’s with his guitar playing. And Justin brings in some fresh jazz like performances on the drum. Tom keeps it all together though with a solid bass line.
My favorite songs on the new album have got to be “Magic Hour” and “Paradise” they the perfect combination of genres and their style which truly is their own leaves you stunned.
Anyone looking for some good tunes to listen to over the summer needs to stop what they are doing right now and buy this album.
