Southwest Minnesota State University professors proudly show off their artistic specialties during the Faculty Art Exhibition, which ran March 31 through April 16 in the Whipple Gallery. The event is a part of the Fine Arts Celebration, which is in its eighth year.
Artists on display were Professors of Art Patricia Brace (jewelry), Robert Dorlac (painting), Alma Hale (photography and calligraphy), Patricia Hand (sculpture), and Jim Swartz (photography), as well as Adjunct Faculty John Sterner (sculpture and painting), and Professor of English Elizabeth Blair (photography).
Brace’s jewelry takes inspiration from various media, such as the television show Boardwalk Empire. Her work is mostly created in the summer months and can take three to four tries to perfect. Brace has been creating jewelry for around nine years.
“Everyone in the art faculty are artists,” said Brace. “We are creative people.”
Other works from the exhibit included nature photographs from Blair. Her work includes the “Bog Tapestry,” a series of pictures showing the reflections and palette of an Itasca County bog. Blair has won awards for her photography in the past.
Also on display were a series of four paintings on canvas of a loaf of bread from different perspectives, created by Dorlac.
Fine Arts Celebration continues in the Whipple Gallery with senior art graduation projects and exhibits on display April 17 through May 8.
