You hear a lot of new bands dropping albums these days. You also hear some established artists dropping their fourth and fifth albums. But something you don’t hear every day is an artist who is already dead will be releasing his third album. Johnny Cash died on September 12, 2003 and has released two albums posthumously, and on March 25 he will be releasing his third.
The album will be named “Out among the Stars” and was actually recorded in the early ‘80s, according to an article written by Chirs Talbott of Huffington Post. The songs have never been released on any album.
After listening to some sample songs, I think it is going to be another classic Cash album and it will be loved by those who listen. My favorite song that I had the opportunity to listen to was “Don’t You Think Our Time Will Come?” which features June Carter Cash. June was the second wife of Johnny Cash, and whenever they get together to sing a song it really is magic.
“Don’t You Think Our Time Will Come?” is if anything a song about ending of careers and death, and to be placed on an album that is set to be released ten years after both of their deaths is rather dark. The sour irony is not lost, but for Johnny Cash fans, they will know that even to Johnny Cash, this irony is almost sweet.
Few artists have had such an impact on American culture long after their death and with Johnny Cash’s newest album, his influence will continue to be present. I for one am looking forward to buying the full album and to keep the legend alive.
