“Love, Loss and What I Wore,” a Reader’s Theatre performance by Nora and Delia Ephron and based on the book by Ilene Beckerman, was performed twice at Southwest Minnesota State University earlier this month.
The performances took place at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 29 and March 1 in SMSU’s main theater. The play, directed by Sheila Tabaka and produced by Nadine Schmidt, had ten readers who portrayed the story of the experience of women, as told through clothes. The situations in the performance ranged from what someone wore on their wedding day, to feelings while trying on clothes, to talk about accessorizing and how to properly do it.
While the humor, and truthfully the performance in general, is unquestionably aimed toward women, there were still several jokes sprinkled throughout that would make anyone laugh.
The reading would not have been too torturous for any men that would likely have been dragged along by their wives. The reading even occasionally poked fun at the ridiculous lengths some women go to in the name of fashion, garnering laughs from both genders in the audience.
Overall, “Love, Loss and What I Wore” was an entertaining 90 minutes. The show had a great pace and a mix of humor that managed to appeal to both genders, despite the show’s subject being primarily feminine.
