Near the end of February, Nintendo announced that the online multiplayer services for the Wii and DS systems will be shutdown worldwide May 20th this year. This doesn’t mean that all Wi-Fi and internet services will be removed. Some of the services that will still be available for the Wii include Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, and the Wii Shop Channel. The DS will still have the DS Shop and DS Browser.
It’s not the biggest disappointment though. The Wii online multiplayer service was rather horrible. Games would lag consistently and would make most games hard to play with other people online. The Wii U online multiplayer may be better, but not many games have been released to confirm this. This might not be big news for most people, because most online play is done through the Playstation, the Xbox, and PC.
