Many people will spend a lot of money on tickets to see live musicians. Not only are tickets pricey, but the other costs associated with attending the event can be extremely high as well: food, gas, apparel, and other memorabilia. So for a poor college student finding time and money can become a challenge. So wouldn’t it be great if the Marshall or SMSU community hosted a discounted or free event for students to enjoy live musicians perform? Well they do and it is called Café Night.
On Thurs., Feb. 20 the CRC (Campus Religious Center) hosted its annual Café Night, where talent both from SMSU and the local area are able to come and perform live. It had many artists from an assortment of genres. The most watched performances were between two of our very own Mustangs, Jeff Johnson and James Saydee Jr. Both Johnson and Saydee are guitarists/vocalists. But live musicians were not the only ones to perform at the event; SMSU poets Elizabeth Senkyr and yours truly, Jonathan Heimer, also performed. Along with the live performances there was also paintings from various artists on display throughout the CRC. There was also free food and coffee (or hot chocolate) for all those who came.
So if you are looking to save some money, but still see some good performers then keep your schedule clear for next year. Café Night might be something you want to see. Whether you like art, music, or poetry and even if you have nothing to do and just want to support your fellow Mustangs, come to next year’s Café Night.
