Like many concerts, Home Free took a break for a drum solo during the middle of their performance. Unlike other shows, however, Adam Rupp did his “drum” solo using only his voice. Home Free is a Minnesota-based A Capella group, meaning they use only their vocal ranges to mimic the sounds of instruments. The result is an incredible sound, and if you didn’t know any better, you’d assume instruments were involved. The band started out strong with the popular Florida Georgia Line song, Cruise, and Avicii’s Wake Me Up.
In addition to astounding vocals, Home Free’s element of humor made the performance shine. The friendliness and “brotherly” charm of the group made for an extremely entertaining show. It created the feeling of an intimate concert in a large gymnasium, where hundreds of people gathered to listen.
The audience itself was quite eclectic, from younger kids to the elderly anxious to hear what Home Free had in store. No doubt, they were satisfied. Home Free made sure to cater to many different musical styles from country to pop, even pleasing the older crowd in their performance of Rockin’ Robin.
Concluding their performance, Home Free sang Life Is A Highway and Ring Of Fire as an encore. Although the concert was short, only about an hour, many will agree that Home Free didn’t win The Sing Off for just any reason; their show was nothing short of spectacular.
Home Free’s album Crazy Life is currently available on iTunes and will be available in stores March 18th.
