You’ve probably never heard of the band Nerf Herder, but if you’ve ever watched Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, I can guarantee you’ve heard at least one of their songs. Nerf Herder is best known for their song in the opening credits of Buffy.
A pop punk band from Santa Barbara, Nerf Herder formed in 1994. They got their name from a Star Wars reference. Princess Leia insults Han Solo with, “Why you stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herder!”
The original band members included Parry Gripp (vocals, guitar), Charlie Dennis (bass), and Steve Sherlock (drums). Charlie left the band after their first album and was replaced by Justin Fisher.
In April of 2003, Nerf Herder got some spotlight. The band played on the final season of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer as the last band to play at The Bronze in the episode, “Empty Places.”
Don’t think Nerf Herder has long since died. As of 2013, the band has begun work on a new album.
