Every aspiring actor, would be director, and screenplay generating writer dreams of little gold men, red carpets, and glamorous attire. The 85th Academy Awards, otherwise known as the 2013 Oscars are coming up Feb. 24th on ABC.
This year’s Oscars will be hosted by the controversial Seth McFarland, or as you might know him, the voice of Stewie from “Family Guy.” Reactions have ranged from excited and amused, to completely offended at the choice. A quick scroll through any news webesite’s report of the news offers helpful watching tips for this year like, “take a drink every time McFarland does a weird voice,” or “just mute the TV and add in your own voice.”
More controversial goings on surrounds the Oscars this year than just the host. This year two of the Best Actress nominees are setting records, the talented Emmanuelle Rivera (Amour) is the oldest nominee ever at 85, and the adorable Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) is the youngest nominee ever at only 9 years old. Critics say that Ms. Wallis is too young to be thrust into the spotlight, nor does she deserve the praise because someone so young cannot be consciously acting. But others, including the director Behn Zeitlin who makes sure Wallis leads a normal life, say that Wallis is just naturally talented.
Best Picture nominees this year include Life of Pi, Les Miserables, Argo, Lincoln, Amour, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Silver Linings Play Book, Django Unchained, and Zero Dark Thirty.
Singer Adele, a new mom and Golden Globe winner, will be performing at the Oscars this year. Also several contests are being held by the Academy Awards board for fans to come, including one for aspiring film makers.
The Academy Awards will be held Feb. 24th at 7pm Eastern/4pm Pacific (6pm for us Central time zone viewers) on ABC. Check your local listings for earlier red carpet coverage and facebook for local viewing parties.
