The Southwest Minnesota State University soccer team swept the University of Minnesota-Crookston 4-0 on Saturday, Sept. 29.
The Mustangs started strong in the first half, converting a foul on SMSU’s Miranda Cadena into a goal for Autumn Hayes. This makes for Hayes’s third goal of the season. A goal by Kayla Williams after 36 minutes of play would give the Mustangs a 2-0 lead going into the second half.
In the second half, Kylee Nolan and Brittany Bravo would chip in two additional goals, assisted by Kendahl Fisher and Demi Rorvick, respectively. Goalkeepers Sonya Smith and Kristy Leopold teamed up for SMSU’s fourth shutout of the season.
The win improves the Mustangs to a record of 5-3 overall and 3-3 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, while Minnesota-Crookston falls to 0-8-1 overall and 0-5-1 in the NSIC.
