Game 1: Mustangs vs. Mavericks

The Mustangs played the Minnesota State Mavericks in back-to-back games on Thurs., Mar. 21 at Woodside Sports Complex Park in Mauston, WI.

In their first game, the Mustangs scored their only run in the first after Senior Jayden Fleck dropped a double into left field that scored Senior Connor Johnson. They then went stagnant the rest of the game.

The Mavericks tied the game up in their first at bat, then sealed the game in the eighth with a single. Mustangs go on to lose 2-1.

Game 2: Mustangs vs. Mavericks

The Mustangs slipped at the starting line and were never able to catch up to the Mavericks. They blew the game wide open with four runs in the second, trickling in the rest of their runs in the fourth and sixth. The Mustangs scored their only run after Junior Tanner Strommen grounded into a double play that scored Johnson. Mustangs drop game two to the Mavericks 1-8.

Game 3: Mustangs vs. Warriors

The Mustangs played the Winona State Warriors on Fri., Mar. 22, again at Woodside Sports Complex Park. The Warrors scored four runs in the third, while the Mustangs went runless until the sixth.

Light finally shined and Junior Ben Heichel got an RBI single in the sixth. In the eighth, Fleck doubled to bring in Johnson. The Warriors answered with two runs of their own in the eighth, and won the game 6-2.

Game 4: Mustangs vs. Warriors

In their second game against the Warriors, the Mustangs kept it close throughout. After singles by first-year Kip Gronholz and Andy Andresen, first-year Robbie Smith and Sophomore Matt Bezdicek scored, put- ting the Mustangs up by two. The Warriors ended up scoring two of their own, and their last run in the third proved to be the dagger that cost the Mustangs the game. Mustangs lose this one 3-2 to the Warriors.

Game 5: Mustangs vs. Warriors

In their third game against the Warriors, the Mustangs came out of the gate hot with three runs in the first. Strommen, Sophomore Jake Hendricks, and Fleck would all end the first with RBIs.

They then went quiet until the sixth when Heichel shattered the silence with a homer. The Warriors answered by scoring three runs of their own in the sec- ond and added more in the fifth.

The Mustangs tied the game at five in the eight, but couldn’t hold out in the ninth. Warriors run away with the series 3-0 as the Stangs lose the game 6-5.
