40 years ago:
The Southwest State Bronco’s duked it out with a local Citizen Band Radio operators at the second
annual benefit wheelchair basketball game that was held at Southwest State. All of the proceeds of the game went to sending the athletes to the President’s Committee on Employment of Handicapped in Washington, D.C. The week before that the Bronco’s battled the North Country Stingers in a two game series. After dropping the first game to the Stingers 51-35, but the Broncos bounced back the second game and topped the Stingers 47-36. That win solidified the most wins in a single season at that time.

30 years ago:
The Southwest State University was having a stellar season in 1988 that led all the way to the national tournament under the direction of legendary coach Lew Shaver. The broncos finished in second place in the CIC (Central Intercollegiate Conference) behind Illinois who had a record of 9-1. The team was led in points per game by Freshman Pete Stigman who averaged 10. Senior Tim Grages was a closed second to Stigman scoring nine points a game. The team went on to play Wright State University in their first game of the national tournament.

20 years ago:
Ever had a letter sent to you saying that a book you checked out from the library was overdue? During the school year of 1998 Sophmore Connie Marco had her library card stolen from
her purse. Marco received a notice from the library at the end of the fall semester saying that she had a staggering amount of book that were long past due. 43 to be exact.

The total value of the book checked out under Marco’s name were estimated to be around $5,000. The student who stole Marco’s ID was not found.

10 years ago:
The SMSU Mustangs women’s basketball team got their revenge of the St. Cloud Huskies who they lost to in heartbreaking fashion earlier in their 08-09 campaign. The Mustangs had a six point lead heading into the third quarter, but lost by 21 when the buzzer sounded in the fourth.
The second go around the Mustangs were focused for all four quarters, beating the Huskies 82-73. The Mustangs had four players score in double digits with the leading scorerer being Abbey

Oakland who scrapped for 20 points.

Last years Hawaiian night was a good one for SMSUAthletics. Both the men’s and women’s team won their games in the midst of all the Hawaiian attire. The women’s basketball team put an end to their four game losing streak beating UM 73-58. Caleigh Rodning led the team with 22 points, twelve being scored in the first half. The mens team ran away with their Hawaiian night exhibition, demolishing UM 83-61. Carter Kirk led the team in points with 22, and was two rebounds shy of
a double-double.
