The 27th International Food Festival was held on April 8. Students from all around the world prepared dishes for students, professors, faculty, and community members.

The festival represented nearly a dozen different countries around the world. Some booths also gave out information for people to learn more about their country.

Tickets were $7 for adults and $5 for kids 5-11, with kids under five being free. Tickets sold out with around 250-300 attendees, which is the highest attendance in recent years. David Shittu, the president of the International Student Organization, was enthusiastic about the turnout.

“I love to see the satisfaction on in people’s faces,” Shittu said. “One question I always ask is ‘by a show hands, who isn’t enjoying the food,’ and there are never any hands.”

Each attendee received food vouchers to get a variety of the food. Food served included are fried plantains from Nigeria, cheese balls and dumplings from Nepal, and empanadas from Argentina. Dessert dishes like tapioca pudding and rice cakes were also served. Culinology senior Kenneth Lam represented Malaysia with a dish of coconut rice, spicy shrimp and anchovies.

“I was given the opportunity to share [my country’s] national dish, ‘nasi lemak’ with locals and other students,” Lam said. “Getting compliments for the food is the best feeling ever.”

The event was sponsored by the International Student Organization, which also puts on the International Art Festival and Culture Shock.
