Student Association positions open

Applications for Student Association positions are available in SC 217 and are due Mar. 21. The election will be held during the second week of April.

Students can run for Student Senate or Executive Board positions. Executive positions are president, vice-president, Judicial Board coordinator, Student Activities Committee coordinator and public relations coordinator.

“If someone believes they can make a positive impact in an area, they should run,” Student Association President Ashanti Payne said.

According to the Student Association constitution, duties of the Student Senate includes appointing all members to the Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee (SAFAC), recommending appropriations of Student Activity fees, and considering and acting upon recommendations of students.

The president acts as the official representative of the Student Association. They direct the Executive Board, and serve as ex-officio member of all boards, councils and committees of the Student Association, among other duties.

The vice-president performs the duties of the president in their absence or at their request, presides over the Student Association meetings, and prepares meeting agendas, among other duties.

The Judicial Board coordinator’s responsibilities include coordinating all elections and referendums, and presiding over Judicial Council meetings. The Student Activities Committee coordinator’s responsibilities include presiding over SAC meetings and serving as overall coordinator of all events undertaken by SAC.

Duties of the public relations coordinator include advertising about Student Association events and coordinating blood drives.

Payne encourages students to check the Student Association Facebook page for information on open candidate forums, which are an opportunity for students to meet the candidates.

“I believe that every student has a unique set of leadership qualities,” Payne said. “The confidence to apply our personalized skill sets is an aspect that sets leaders apart.”
