RHA hosts 18th annual RES HALLoween event Oct. 29

After the football game on Saturday, Oct. 29, students will see a many local children walking around campus in their Halloween costumes as part of the 18th annual Res HALLoween event.

There are many different events that go on from 4 to 7 p.m. that evening, with one of them being the always popular bounce houses. Everything is hosted by the Residence Hall Association. Admission is one non-perishable food item per child, or just one dollar per child.

For the trick-or-treating among the dorms, the theme this year is Movie Madness. Each dorm that signed up to participate decorates their halls in coordination with whatever movie they picked as their theme.

“Not all RAs have to do it, but it’s pretty common that everyone does,” Sweetland Hall RA Morgan Benson said. “We can do scary themes, but we just have to make sure that the younger kids don’t walk through that res hall.”

Dressing up for this event is not just for the visiting children either. Res HALLoween is meant to be fun for students and staff at SMSU, and the families in the community.

“We highly suggest the residents to dress up and participate in this event,” Benson said. “It’s a lot of fun.”

Students should be able to find signs around their halls saying their theme, and the times that they will be decorating.

As more incentive to participate, President Connie Gores will also be judging each dorm on how well decorated both the dorm and residents are. The winning hall will receive a free pizza party and $100 in house funds.

The SMSU campus hosts this event yearly, so students have multiple chances to show their Halloween spirit. Since the football team will be playing Concordia St. Paul, the community of St. Paul has also been invited to come, participate, and enjoy Halloween with the surrounding towns of Marshall.
