Recipe for Finals Week: Puppy Chow

Finals week is looming, so it’s time to start preparing your study snacks! While it’s best for your brain and body to snack on some brain food like almonds, fresh veggies and hummus, or mixed berries, sometimes you just need a sugary 2 a.m. pick-me-up. Puppy chow is a classic, easy favorite that you can make and share with your friends when cramming for your finals. You probably even have some of the ingredients already, so it’s college student budget friendly, too!

Ingredients:

1 box Chex Cereal

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

½ cup peanut butter

1 stick butter

1-2 cups powdered sugar

2 gallon resealable Ziploc bags or large brown paper grocery bags

Directions:

In a large bowl, measure out cereal and set aside.

In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add the chocolate chips and peanut butter. Stir frequently until melted and smooth. Remove saucepan from heat. Pour chocolate mixture over the cereal and toss until evenly coated in chocolate.

Pour cereal in plastic or brown paper bags, add a cup of powdered sugar, and shake until cereal is coated in sugar. Add more sugar if desired.

Pour finished puppy chow on baking sheet to cool (about one hour).

Store in airtight container and enjoy!
