Women’s Rugby

The SMSU women’s rugby team went to the annual Wayne State rugby tournament on April 9 and 10. It was a four team round-robin style tournament.

SMSU played a total of five games. The first three were round robin, and the last two were tournament play.

Because rugby is a club team and not technically considered a sport at SMSU, the teams end up playing the same teams multiple times a year.

Sophomore Megan Loger is in her second year on the rugby team.

“My favorite part of going to the Wayne State tournament is getting to play new teams and meeting new players from all over the country,” Loger said.

The team finished fourth overall at the end of the tournament. All of the players seem to like the experience this opportunity gives them. The Wayne State tournament is beginning to become an annual tradition for the SMSU women’s rugby team.
