Recipe: St. Patrick’s Day Puppy Chow

Puppy Chow is a big favorite of Midwesterners, so why not kick it up a notch for St. Patrick’s Day? Using some unique ingredients like spearmint oil and green candy or food coloring, it’s not hard to get in the holiday spirit. This simple recipe is easy to make a huge batch of, so surprise your friends and roommates with some bags of this sweet themed treat!

Ingredients:

– 5 cups of rice Chex cereal

– 1 bag of green candy melts (or white chocolate almond bark with green food coloring)

– 1 drop of spearmint oil (optional)

– 2 cups of powdered sugar

Directions:

Add the cereal to a large mixing bowl and set aside.

Pour the candy melts or almond bark into a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30-second intervals. Stir after each interval until completely melted. Once melted, stir in one drop of spearmint oil (or more to taste).

Add the powdered sugar to a large plastic bag and set aside.

Pour melted candy or almond bark into mixing bowl and mix with the cereal. After fully mixed, pour mixture into plastic bag and seal. Shake bag until all cereal pieces are covered. 

Pour puppy chow onto a large cookie sheet to cool. Store in an airtight container and enjoy!
