Women’s Basketball Loses in Finals

The SMSU women’s basketball team lost their final regular season game 79-63 at Minnesota State Mankato (MSU) on Saturday, Feb. 20.
The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, going on a 7-2 run to start the game. By the end of the first quarter the Mustangs led by 11 points, and built their largest lead of the game at 13 early in the second quarter after a layup from Lauren Hedlund.
MSU responded by going on a 13-0 scoring run to tie the game at 24 late in the second quarter. MSU led by one point at halftime.
MSU continued their scoring streak, pushing their lead to double digits midway through the third quarter. Near the end of the fourth quarter, MSU held their largest lead: 77-53. SMSU fought back with a 10-2 scoring run with just over three minutes left, but it was too little too late as the Mustangs lost 79-63.
