Telling Women’s Stories Winners
Earlier this year, the Telling Women’s Stories contest, which was sponsored by the SMSU Women’s Studies Committee, accepted entries. The entries included up to ten pages per person of essays, poems, or short stories about women.
“Volunteers from the committee served as judges and read all of the entries,” Professor of English Susan McLean said. “The entries were judged on the quality of the writing and on whether the content of the works focused on women, after the names of the authors had been removed from them.”
Winners are the following:
First place was awarded to Danielle Crowell for her poems “Toadstone,” “Prep Time,” and “Hate Text.” The prize for first place was a $75 gift certificate.
Second place was awarded to Talitha Black for her poem “Snake Girl.” She received a $50 gift certificate.
Third place was awarded to Caitlyn Sanow for her story “Mistakes” and her poem “Since I Was a Little Girl.” She received a $25 gift certificate.
“There will be a reading by the winners of their winning entries, which will be followed by a reception in mid-March,” McLean said. “The reading will be in the Whipple Gallery in the library. The date is still to be determined.”
