The annual tradition of buying everything you can after Thanksgiving has come and gone, and like every year there are plenty of stories to pass around, stats to look at, and more reasons why Black Friday could be considered its own national holiday. So much so that it’s even slowly taking over another holiday.
An interesting thing to think about is that more people went shopping on Black Friday than there were voters during the midterm elections. It may be a sad fact, but it was to be expected. For some, there is no incentive to vote. In contrast, shopping gets them things that they either wanted or gifts for others.
As to be expected, like every year, the mass of people shopping during Black Friday pay little heed to others when they shop, going so far as to physically attacking another person for an item they probably have little use for.
Most of the events surrounding Black Friday do not even happen on a Friday anymore. To try and help reduce the amount of violence and to lengthen the Black Friday spree, many shops started opening up earlier around 5 p.m. on Thursday, AKA. Thanksgiving. This also caused controversy as many people thought that this would distract people away from the holiday meant to focus on family and make it more about money and items.
Now that Black Friday is over, people look back with disgust at the events that happened, even if they may have helped it happen. This is why the evolution of Cyber Monday may be a better occurrence than Black Friday. When was the last time you heard of someone dying during an online shopping spree? Me neither.
