The First Lutheran Church was full of people listening to music as the SMSU Concert Choir performed A Child’s Garden on Nov. 13. Dr. Stephen Kingsbury conducted the concert that was inspired by the recent birth of his daughter, June Constance, in late Sept.
The evening was brimming with childhood inspired songs such as “I Bought Me a Cat (Children’s Song),” “Little Potato,” “Beautiful Soup,” “Father William,” and foreign melodies like “Die Nacht.” Some songs were funny and childish, while others were sweet lullabies. When entwined together, the combination of music made for a successful and pleasant performance to sit and enjoy.
The SMSU Chorale is the department’s elite, mixed choral ensemble. The ensemble specializes in the performance of a wide range of sacred and secular choral literature of all historical periods, voicings, and nationalities. The SMSU Concert Choir is open to all SMSU students, regardless of major, by audition.
